I agree with you Eerie, it’s just that at the moment too many of our more experienced newbies are still just starting to show promise. When they are at a point where they have settled in and are firing, then Soucek’s stats will probably stand out even more and young Downes can slot into a team that he can flourish in, if and when the stats get worse for Soucek.
They could both end up being driven by each other to up their game and is how top teams stay there….

Soucek completed passes against Wolves was 79%. He's a central midfielder for fuck sake. He was just a bit less shit than he was in previous games.
If you've watched the 2 games that Downes has played, and you can't see he's a good player who will be fine at Prem level, fuck knows what you're seeing.

I can see Moyes introducing Downes to the Premiership in stages 15 minutes here and there to see if he adapts... I hope so as soucek apart from the Wolves game has been very disappointing for a while now.
Yesterday showed how a decent squad is so important ....onwards and upwards.

Got back from Belgium at 5am this morning and straight back to work.
My quick summary of the day:
- Do not go to the north of Brussels - absolute shit hole with loads of drug deals hanging around and brasses.
- Great day boozing in the sun but sometimes I wish they didn't have music so we could create the atmosphere rather then hear shit songs.
- Anderlecht fans sitting bottom of our end made some good noise and overall were very good I thought. Saw a few of them nicked two flags during half time. I am expecting them to make an appearance at the home game in their end.
- I think everyone knew when reading the team sheet we would not score first half and Moyes would be forced to bring on the big boys. As soon as they came on it felt a goal and win was inevitable.
- Overall, I thought most players played well. Benrahma really is lacking confidence though or it is just down to a lack of quality. My guess is it's probably a bit of both.
- Win next week and play a 2nd string team for last two games which still should be good enough to get results. I think we are going far in this competition and as others have said, I do not think anyone will fancy playing us including whoever drops down from Europa.
- I am really expecting us to click in the laters stages of the competition once everyone is used to playing with each other. Pacqueta and Scammaca yesterday gave us a glimpse of the link up we may come to expect.
- Only down side last night was the trouble between West Ham fans after the game. Wasn't too bad and not sure what it was over but hey ho!
I am really going to miss European away days when this incredible run of form for us is over. Irons.

So you are 100% confident a player who has never played in the Premier League before can just waltz into our team from the Championship and perform from day 1 in the team?
Of course the jury is still out on whether Downes is up to the standard required for a Premier League club aiming to be a consistently top 8 club. We signed the guy from Swansea FFS. He may well be Championship level, but equally he may prove himself in time. We will see.
